Circle Theatre Heats Up the Stage with Regional Premiere of “Dex & Julie Sittin’ in a Tree”

Bruce Graham’s Steamy New Play Runs September 18 – October 18

Fort Worth , TX – August 20, 2008 – Circle Theatre, a professional, contemporary regional theatre company in Sundance Square, will begin previews of Dex & Julie Sittin’ in a Tree on September 18, 2008. The steamy play about two college sweethearts, twenty-five years later, is written by acclaimed playwright Bruce Graham and directed by Matthew Gray. The show previews September 18, 19, and 20 (matinee) and officially opens Saturday at 8:00pm, September 20, 2008.

In this sexy, edgy two-actor tour-de-force, college sweethearts Dex and Julie reunite 25 years later when Dex (played by Chamblee Ferguson*), now a celebrity lawyer, arrives to collect an award from their alma mater. He stays at the secluded home of his former girlfriend, Dr. Julie Chernitsky (played by Gigi Cervantes*), a recently widowed English professor with a biting wit. Memories of their romance are rich, and things heat up fast. Filled with snappy, contemporary dialogue and surprising twists, Dex & Julie Sittin' in a Tree will satisfy everyone who has ever fantasized (or wanted to) about revisiting their past.

“We’re thrilled to stage our fourth play written by Bruce Graham,” said Rose Pearson, executive director and producer at Circle Theatre. “Bruce is one of the country’s leading, emerging playwrights, and Dex & Julie is sure to be another audience favorite.”

Bruce Graham was inspired to write Dex & Julie Sittin' in a Tree after returning to his own alma mater to receive their Distinguished Alumni Award in 2000. The play premiered in 2007 at the Arden Theatre Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Circle’s production is the second staging of this exciting new play.

“Circle Theatre is currently playing an important part in contemporary American theatre,” said Bruce Graham, playwright for Dex & Julie Sittin’ in a Tree. “It’s safe and easy to give subscribers the latest hot off-Broadway offerings in a season. It takes a special theatre (and audience) to take a chance on something that does not come pre-approved.”

Funded by the Pew Foundation, Mr. Graham will travel to Fort Worth August 25-26 to sit in on rehearsals with Circle’s director and cast to edit and revise his current script for the show. He will return in September for the show’s opening and will also direct and appear in a staged reading of his newest manuscript, Something Intangible , on September 21 at 3:00pm at Circle Theatre. Details will be announced soon.
